Thanks for the information, my low psi issue went away after I changed oil and filters. I would imagine it was a check valve in the oil filter.
July 15, 2020 at 12:25 pm #100903Tony, thanks for the response and your input. Would you believe that the gauges read correctly yesterday eve when I took the boat out for the first time all season? I would still like to take a mechanical gauge to compare the readings but have to believe that it is not the motor(s) but the “Smartcrap” readings.
July 30, 2019 at 2:02 pm #76079I had a similar experience this past weekend with my “smartcrap” gauges and my 2005 QSB 5.9’s. After recently bringing the boat up on plane, the starboard engine alarm screamed and reported alarms, 415 oil pressure low and 143 oil pressure low. After shutting down both engines and checking engine room and oil level, I restarted and hoped it was a electronic bug and it would reset, it did not. The electronic gauge showed very low psi and would increase with throttle but still way to low. I returned to port on one engine and felt I had a voltage issue with alternator as the mechanical gauge was showing lower then the electronic gauge. After testing alternator it was found to be pushing out correctly. I am going to test all the batteries tonight even though they are in their second season and also have a new oil pressure sending unit coming to install as well. I was also going to try and test the oil psi on the top of the oil filter housing as well.
June 19, 2018 at 5:20 pm #33653As luck would have it the problem was found by a 4th set of eyes prior to any lap top diagnosis. One of the connectors on the top of the engine which is connected to the 5 and 6 cylinders separated enough to cut off the two engine cylinders. With a tiny squeeze my issue went away thanks to a butt connector. Thanks for the helpful responses that you all provided.
