May 14, 2022 at 8:42 am Hello, I am in the planning stage of installing new SMX Coolant Temperature Alarms on my 370B twins (CPL2208). I have read thru all of Tony’s tips and also my O&M manual, but need a few clarifications as I plumb in my new hi-temp coolant switches. My Port side is no problem – My Stbd side with existing hot water heater plumbing is a bit more challenging. I read thru the excellent Redundant Alarms article. My questions relate to t…

May 15, 2022 at 6:28 am Yes,  the BYPASS  you are searching for is controlled internally thru  the thermostat housing & thermostat design on all B engines. This design came out it in the late 70’s and very early 80’s when the “B” series engine came off the drawing board and was put into production as an industrial engine and has really not changed since. Must be pushing 10++ millions engine later?

March 17, 2022 at 10:27 am So after doing a ton of research of which most is on this site I think I found what direction I would like to take.  I have the Perko Strainers so cant use the flush top for the Groco.  However I found a part list where I can order 2 extra tops for my Perko for 91$ each. I have the 493/9 which are more expensive due to size.  I could then order off of this site the Bronze Tee Adapter Kit for 270.  I could then get them shipped and find a shop lo…

May 2, 2022 at 9:52 am Hi Lawrence, After spending the past few months maintaining everything in my twin engine room (new R/W Pumps, Fuel Cooler Removal, new Gear Coolers, and now working on the Heat Exchangers, I’m now seeing the wisdom of regular Fresh Water flushing as recommended by Seaboard Marine. I too have the Perko caps installed for a long time, and had 90 degree fittings drilled/tapped in to the caps along with a shutoff valve. Very similar to your setup, e…

March 7, 2022 at 3:09 pm Hello, I’m in the process of redoing my Raw Water side on the Cummins 6BTA-M3 (370) engines. I have removed my Aftercooler core, which had been pre-assembled with some black sticky stuff, which made it difficult to remove. After several hours of banging I got the core out, and saw some minor corrosion inside the aluminum housing. Tubes were clear, and no major corrosion at the core ends.  I used  150/200 grit emery cloth to sand the corros…

March 7, 2022 at 6:11 pm Aftercooler housing ends–Block sand to be sure they are 100% flat– Do not worry about removing too much material.   Housing inside–Do nothing but clean them.. Follow my protocol for assembly      The BLACK STUFF is called an  “E-Coat”.. does not  matter if it comes off in places

January 18, 2022 at 7:59 am I have been reviewing all the videos in preparation for a complete maintenance of the raw water side of my twin 6BTA-370 engines, including the replacement of R/W Pumps with SMX 1730’s, New Gear Coolers, Combo block /Fuel Cooler removal,  and After-cooler/Heat Exchanger maintenance.  A couple of questions that I couldn’t find on the forum: 1).  After-cooler Maintenance Video – What are the twin bolt specifications that were use…

January 19, 2022 at 7:05 pm The turbo/exhaust flange bolts are 8MM, I’m thinking those aftercooler mount bolts are larger, so could by the 10MM’s….
