March 24, 2021 at 11:43 am We just put in an offer on a boat and it was accepted. Survey is Tuesday of this coming week. This boat was #7 on our list. The boats in the Great Lakes are not on the market for very long. We have missed out on a few so we had to get aggressive on this one. There was a boat 50 miles from us…… But it was in Canada so we had to pass since we could not cross to inspect in person. I am still waiting on the service records for th…

March 19, 2019 at 9:41 am Looking at two basically identical boats (OA 52 sedan…’05 & ’07)…one (’05) is powered with twin Yanmar CXM 500hp and the other (’07) with Yanmar 480hp 6ly…hours on both are roughly 1,200. Found a lot of info on Yanmar 6ly 480 but not much on the CXM… Any insight on either would be appreciated….obviously full engine survey by Yanmar guy if it gets to the deal stage. Thanks Bryan

April 2, 2019 at 6:40 pm I was an authorized Yanmar dealer for close to 15 yrs in S. Calif.. I really liked some of the engines Yanmar offered, and in some cases were a better choice than a Cummins product in some applications………..With that said, the engines you are looking at were definitely not on that list………..Why you ask? Simple ………..ZERO after sales support and they came and they went away very quickly ( in le…

    • Wrong Coolant

January 23, 2017 at 11:01 am While having my oil changed in Key West, tech also offered to change the coolant in my Yanmar 6LY3-UTP (in ’09 mainship 34T). Ā I usually have all supplies on hand so I know what we’re using but I only had 1 gallon of ELC coolant and he said no problem he’d bring what’s needed. I return back to the boat this week to find the left over/extra coolant used was Peak Fleet Charge SCA Precharged…it says good for all Heavy …

January 24, 2017 at 9:57 am Rob and Dave, Thanks for the response/advise…I’m going to change this coolant out for the Dex-Cool when I get the boat back to North Palm Beach this weekend. As careful as I’ve been on all service items for this engine its not worth the risk to keep it. Cheers Bryan

    • QSB 6.7 550hp

November 7, 2016 at 10:59 am Quick question…was helping a friend deliver his new boat…powered with twin QSB 6.7 550hp engines and water jets. Ā Had been told to run at 85% load as optimum cruise. Ā That put us at 3,000 RPM…felt too high for me but I have no experience with jet drives…only props. Any suggestion as to where this should be run?   Thanks
