Analog Instrument Panels

April 28, 2020 at 6:01 am I have a 5.9 BT in my 36 Heritage. Upper and lower helm panels do not agree in some cases. Question: Are upper and lower helm panels interchangeable? Are they different? Are they serial number (engine) specific? Tony mentioned cleaning terminals in another thread. How do you clean instrument terminals and contacts? Really appreciate the help
1 ReplyApril 28, 2020 at 1:50 pm Second station panels are different because of the engine start/stop… otherwise they are very similar. Start by cleaning your terminals with WD-40 and a toothbrush… then wait, watch & monitor.

6BT Oil Consumption

July 21, 2017 at 11:34 am I recently put about 80 hours on my 6BT during a two week trip. Total oil consumption was about 5-6 quarts. That’s a “first” for this engine. The engine has a little over 2000 trouble free hours with oil changes every 50-75 hours. Runs perfectly. Noticed smoke for the first time while docking the boat (idle power), but no smoke while underway (1900 – 2100 rpm cruise) Anybody got an idea where to start?
1 ReplyJuly 21, 2017 at 12:43 pm The 1st thing I do is question how much oil is in the oil pan, sitting at the dock, engine off, and correlate that to the makings on the dip stick…………………….. Answer this exactly as asked: Have you read this article and have you done this exactly as is says as to dip stick calibration? Oil Pan Capacities for Cummins Marine Engines Post you engine serial number –I want to look up the OP & …
