Hello all, Thank you in advance as always for the wealth of information here.

Sourcing parts to change my timing belt on 6lp. I decided I should change the coolant since they are so coolant sensitive and I need to pull the crossover pipe anyway.

This lead me down the current bunny hole as to what coolant is correct. It seems Yanmar’s approved coolant list is extremely dated and based off Asian companies that are mainly out of business now or have changed product lines.

I see alot of recommendations for Dex-Cool. I was an auto mechanic for about 10 years and I have never seen a coolant as corrosive as dex-cool in my life yet. So what coolant do I go with? Just pony up the $19 a gallon premixed stuff from yanmar?

Also what is the capacity for a drain and refill on 6lp?

    Thank you guys!!

This might be a little late, but perhaps still help someone.

I use Prestone Extended Life Coolant. It is orange in colour.I get it easily here in Barbados, so would imagine it is readily available where you are.

I have a 2005 6LPA-STP in an Albin 28, with 7200 hours. I put on about 2,000 hours a year, and change it on my annual haul up when we change the timing belt.

I called sunpower a local yanmar dealer and mastry engines also another fl dealer. They both used an pink aftermarket alternative that was available locally and thats what I used. Im struggling to remember the name at the moment. I will pop back in here when I find it.

Texaco was forced out of business nearly 20 years ago through a court-ordered merger with Chevron. (There are still some Texaco retail gas stations, but they are actually Chevron.)

Havoline was a Texaco brand, and it is still a Chevron brand.

I cannot comment on the specific part numbers, but Havoline is definitely the same family as the former Texaco product.

    Cannot Find Texaco 7797

I cannot find Texaco Long Life Coolant (7997) anywhere. Does not even show up on a simple Google search. Where can it be bought? Is Havoline Extended Life Antifreeze (7994) good to use? At least I can find the Havoline.

    Yanmar Coolant

This met the specs when the engine was still in normal production 10 years ago. This was handed out at “Yanmar School” and was easy to find in those days.
