Hello,

My wife and purchased a 2009 48 Fountain Express Cruiser this year and we are doing some electronics upgrades this winter that include two Garmin 1243’s that I would like to send engine data to. My question is what do I need to purchase to make this connection. One concern that I have is that it is set up with three Vesselview V1.5 screens and three six port j-box’s and Glendinning controls, I am not sure if data from all three engines is available from plugging into just one j-box. My other concern is if I wire the three j-boxes together will this cause any problems.

Hi Jeff,

I have twin QSB 5.9 440 HP Cummins and recently fitted a Yacht Devices J1939 Engine Gateway to access engine data. Check out http://www.yachtd.com to see if they have a suitable gateway that will connect engine data to your Garmins. The gateways I purchased plugged into one of the vacant ports on an engine controls box under the helm. It recvd data from both engines so only one gateway was needed.

I am located in Australia and went thru their very helpful local distributor based in Brisbane. I assume they have a US based sitributor you can find via their website ?

It was a pretty easy plug-n-play setup and the system aloows for some configuration changes via a microSD card slot. I had to load up a small txt file that revered the data string from each engine. The local guy just emailed me a small file which I loaded onto a microSD card, inserted it a rebooted the system. All worked fine.

Hope you find a local dealer who can help.

PS: I wanted to post some pics but it appears that ption no longer exists in this Forum software. any Moderators able to comment on this ?
