    Tony and the team,

I recently replaced both impellers on my Cummins 450 6CTA with the smx-17 impellers. Since these impellers do not have the threaded end does the rubber piece included with the pump take the place of the white plug used with the Sherwood impellers? There is a caution note in the Sherwood manual regarding replacing the plug to prevent cover damage if the key were to back out. I am hoping that is what the included rubber piece prevents with the SBMAR SMX17 impellers I purchased.

    Thanks,

    Jeff

Yes–The rubber plug goes in the impeller at the back to keep the key in place or moving out towards the back plate.

    Sherwood 17000A impller

    Tony,

Below is an attachment of the 2 impellers I purchased. Hoping to use them to replace the original Sherwood 17000A impellers that I removed. Sorry for the confusion, the impellers and keys purchased did fit I am just trying to confirm what plug/end cap goes back in to make sure I do not damage the case if the key backs out? Did I purchase the wrong impellers? I made the assumption that the small black circular rubber was the cap that was to be inserted into the end opening of the new impeller to prevent cover damage in case of key blackout.
The pumps are original and appear to be Sherwood model P1730.

    Now I am confused–

with the pump ordered from SBMAR” ????????????

Are you working with our pump (SMX1730), or a Sherwood 1730XX pump?

Our pump uses a splined impeller……………………………… Sherwood uses a key.

    Thank you

    Tony,

Thanks for the quick reply and great customer service. Apologies for my stupidity but can you please confirm that the black rubber piece included with the pump ordered from SBMAR replaces the white cap plug that was on the original Sherwood impeller? It appears that the Sherwood plug does not fit due to the threads used for removal missing?

Thanks again and thanks for your patience. Just donā€™t want issues this summer….:)

Yes–That is the exactly reason for the rubber plug.. That is not a SMX design–that is from Sherwood and a few other pumps manufacturers that use a straight key design .Much easier to assemble .
