Hello. Couldn’t find anything on the forum so here’s my question. When replacing the secondary fuel filters on QSB 5.9 engines, I’ve heard to put new filters on dry and cycle the engine start switches multiple times energizing the fuel pumps and filling the filters. Is this correct? And if so how many times do I cycle the switches and for how long with each cycle? Also any input on the best and least messy way to replace the Racor filters as well without introducing air into the system would be great. Thanks!

If you follow the lines you’ll see which is coming from the supply (IN) and which is feeding the engine (OUT)

Looks like my filter head is oriented differently from your pic. Iā€™m guessing the inlet tap is the one with the visible fuel line in my pics. Iā€™ll figure it out. Thanks.

Do a search on this site. Double double. Way better than the old school racors. Mike

Tony. What do you prefer in place of Racors? New to diesel and racors here. Thanks.

    1) Look at the top of your on-engine filter.. You’ll see 2 bleed screws..Clean all 100%……. Remove the input one–Then cycle the key until it gets “messy”.. Now, loosen the output screw 75% until is is “sloppy loose”.. Cycle a few time until is gets messy too……………… You are now bled.

    2) Racors————–I’ll let someone else help you on that as I won’t deal with them.. 40+ year old technology being used on 21st century 100% full authority electronic common rail engines.. Does not compute with me..
