I have a set of QSM 11’s with 3,000 hrs that have had a oil pressure fluctuation problem since they were new. One problem that was addressed early on was incorrect dip stick marks. As of right now with fresh oil at normal operating oil temps at 1950rpms Ā my pressures fluctuate between 34 and 30 psi. Around 125 hrs on a oil change my pressures will start to fluctuate between 34 and and 28 psi and every once and a while, say once ever 10min, my oil pressure drops to 27-24psi for a split second then jumps right back up. I have read that normal fluctuation can be caused by the remote oil filter but my pressures are around 2 psi lower than other post have stated and no one has mentioned the extreme fluctuation when the oil gets older. I am doing oil changes at least every 150hrs with Valvoline Cumins blue 15w-40, using fleetgaurd filters. The problem is consistent with both engines.Ā

I have access to alternative oil
pressure ports. Will pick up gauge
when I am home next. Engine serial
    numbers port 35232820
    stbd 35232602. I have a 1000 hr
service coming up and I am going to
    check/change oil pressure relief
    valves during to hopefully remedy
    the problem.

Sorry for not getting back….Not sure why I missed your response…………Look at the pics and tell me if you have access to these locations on your engine.. Then, do you have a good 0-100/200 PSI liquid filled test gauge with a short hose and some applicable fitting to do some testing..

Got an engine serial number(s) ? I’d like to look something up as to the history & build data.

    1) 30 quarts sits in my oil pan right now.

    2) sitting in the slip the engines are on a 4 degree nose up angle.Ā

    3) rear sump

    4) I would say the angle increases nose up when on plane.Ā

Ā I have 4 very simple questions– All will be based on “sitting at the dock, engines off”, except #4..

    1) How much oil ( in quarts) is in the oil pan as we chat?

    2) If you were to measure the relative angle of your engine ( top of the valve cover) in relation to “mother earth”, Ā what is that angle? Nose up, Ā or nose down?

    3) Do you have a front sump pan, or rear sump pan?

    4) When you are on plane, cruising, what would you guess the angle is of your engine in comparison to question # 2?
