Just wondering what others are seeing for engine load at idle? Went to look at an 8.3 QSC today, was running a bit rough at lower RPM, at idl in neutral load was 24-26% As the engine rpm was increased in neutral the engine smoothed out and load decreased as throttle position increased.

Have a good video of this this but couldn’t figure out how to load it onto forum.

    Thanks,
    JW

Engine is installed in a commercial lobster boat, 6700hrs on the engine, brand-new after cooler from Seaboard last spring, serviced this spring. Old aftercooler had been neglected and core was leaking a bit. Overhead adjusted this spring, intake valves were all pretty tight with #5 and #6 at less than .003″. High-pressure fuel pump has been changed, failed within first 2000hrs and was covered under warranty.

How about posting all on the engines past history — Hours, Servicing of the aftercooler, application, serial number etc etc,, Post some pics of the installation showing the ECM side of the engine and the exhaust system.. I also want to “see” the mounts..

Below is link to the video, as can be heard in the video the engine seems a bit rough until RPM gets up above 1500rpm. The video is taken in neutral and the rough running is even more pronounced while in gear.

    Load % at idle

It is completely normal to see a higher load % at idle in neutral…–Raising the RPM increases available power, hence lowers the %…Understand load % is based on available power vs, power being used…………. On commercial boats with hydraulics, we’ll see 75%+ at times when the hydraulics are working hard pulling gear.
