The alternator on my 1989 vintage 8kw Onan genset failed, and broke the alternator bracket. Or possibly vice versa. When I turn the alternator, it doesn’t turn smoothly – it’s “lumpy” feeling, which I assume means bad bearings.
I believe the underlying engine is a kubota(?) and I may be able to find a replacement alternator, but I don’t know how I’ll ever find a replacement bracket.
The belt goes around the alternator, flywheel, and water pump. Thought about just getting a smaller belt and bypassing the alternator all together but I don’t know how I’d tension it correctly without the alternator.
We just left on what was supposed to be a couple of month trip south to Florida, would hate to not have a genset the whole time. Would also hate to have to replace the whole genset over $100 worth of parts.
Any suggestions?
