I am looking into Vikings in the year range of 2003-2006 and was wondering if anyone could give some advice on the v10 Man engines they use. Most have hours between 1500 and 2800 hours. What I have heard is that their 1000 hour services are about $1000 per hole. I have also heard that some of the engines smoke. I am also wondering how many hours these engines can go before a major rebuild has to be done. Any info would be greatly appreciated.

Realize that I am not a MAN guy but the best advise I could give you would  to be sure you have “deep pockets” is you buy a boat with these engines..If you are budget minded and want a boat with engines like these or similar engines from MTU, then I’d be looking to a boat with CAT’s, Cummins, or Detroit Series 60’s in it..

All of the German high performance V-engine are crazy expensive to maintain follow the factory schedules,  or rebuild should something happen that requires that…
