Saturday, we took our 2004 Tiara 36 sovran out, Cummins 450 C’s 870 hrs on engines, surveyed in May, engines and boat, excellent results.  It’s a new to us boat since mid May.  We have had her out every weekend for overnighters and no issues.  Saturday started as always, down the river at no-wake speed, out into the sound in the channel started bring her up and got to 15-16 knots and heard a rumble and felt a vibration. Brought back down to idle and it went away, all gauges looked good, nothing out of the ordinary.  Slowly brought her back up and no issues, crossed the sound to meet our friends to raft up for the weekend.  As we slowed down and maneuvered to tie up, I put her in reverse and both engines shut down.  Put her in neutral and started both up no problem, but in neutral she went forward. I repeated the process same results. Shut down and anchored, called tow boat US, back to our slip. It’s a manual cable shifter, not EEC.  No drips or leaks, checked the props and shafts and nothing on them.  I talked to our mechanic, he is coming this Friday or next Monday, the marina service manager is booked out 2 weeks, but both think it’s a sensor issue, maybe on the Glendinning synchronizer?  Any ideas?  Thanks to all for any thoughts!

Has your mechanic figured anything out? On the surface it sounds like both fwd clutches are locked up from “slipping”?  Is the oil dark or smelling  burnt?
