Removing my core of the Aftercooler on my 6BTA the core is stuck and can’t get it out.  Tried oiling and force, but no luck.  Will heating the casing help free it up?  Any other advise.

Thanks Kyle.  How about a follow-up Glen?

My aftercoolers had been neglected by the previous owner and I ran into a situation almost the same as yours on my starboard.  Believe it or not the only way I was able to get the core out (and subsequently reinsert it) was to slip it back in and pull it out the other end!  Must have been some sort of minor deformation that occurred to one end that prevented the core from sliding in/out from one end but worked from the other.  I couldn’t see anything visibly wrong and everything pressure tested fine once reassembled.  Good luck!

A little finesse and it should not have gotten to the point of being stuck.  Won’t it straighten and slide back in and then come out true?  Yes, horizontal in the vice is the only way.  I put the bracket in the vice and then blocks to support the weight and it’s rock solid to work on

    This is silly……

Clamp the aftercooler on that RIGHT ANGLE steel bracket we all see in a large solid vise horizontally..

Straighten up the core 100% in all planes–WD-40 and wiggle it out gently-

Any angle at all and it will bind up–It’s got to be “just right” to come out
