    HI Guys

So i’ve now ordered nearly all my fittings and hose for doing the filter upgrade. I’m now probably overthinking things, however as i’m redoing tank to engine and back.. how do I flush the system to get any crap out of the lines (metal swarf, rubber, etc) or is it something I need to do?

At the moment I have a remote last chance filter, and that is likely to stay in place until I can move them back to on engine rather than remote (to tidy things up) so that should catch the crud. However when I do the last chance filter and repipe that.. am I going to need to flush it out? SB side probably wont be too bad as I can get access to the pipes etc easily.. the port is a different matter as its likely to be a bit of a pig and a lot of work will be done at arms length, so keeping stuff clean may be a challenge.

Am I just making issues up? or is it something to think about – I dont want to write my pump off!

    Steve

    Hi Tony

Thanks for confirming my overthinking šŸ™‚ flush and put back in the tank

Re the upgrade, replacing every single hose pipe and fitting from the tank valves to the engine and back, including the tank crossover. Replacing old racor 500 with twin filters, FS1218, then FS1000 (cheap to buy here).

Current setup is a combo of copper and hose and a mess.. plus 22 years old. Time to replace and get filtration done right..

The on engine filters are currently remote also so I’ll be recommisioning these back on the engine to clean pipework up and as they won’t need changing for a while after the new set up is installed.

Tanks have no water and no visible crud in the racor bowls, so pretty clean given the age.

I’ll stop asking questions now and get it done and get some pictures posted.. !

    Steve,

Yes, you are over thinking.. Get the new system installed and before you hook it up the engine input connection, just siphon or ? a couple of liters thru the set-up and dump that fuel back into the tank.. Change your on-engine filter at this time and you’ll probably never have to do it again depending on what’s before it or how much water you have in your tanks…

Exactly what are you upgrading to between the tank and the engine?
