Hi, reposting the topic as something happened that it never made it thru yesterday.

    A bit of background first:
I have concluded that to change the dripless seals, the gears need to be removed to gain access to remove the shaft coupler from the shaft.

Heres the catch,,, to remove the gears they have to slide back from the flywheel (gear shaft inserted there) but there is no room behind the gear to slide it back.
The shaft, coupler and dripless are all there.
We have attempted to lift the rear of the engine with a beam and comealongs to clear the obstructions and slide gears back, but its so confined and dangerous that its not worth an accident for anyone down there.

The gears are also leaking and seals replacement need to happen outside, also rear main seals for the 5.9 12v.
Long story short engines need to come out to get all this done. Planning with cranes etc to follow.

While the engine room is clear I need to decide (beforehand) where to relocate the raw water thruhulls.
These are currently next to the gears, only reachable with one hand after removing starboard aftercooler and intake and port exhaust elbows from turbo and wet exhaust. See photos

They are also stuck and serve no opening and closing function, so in an emergency there is ZERO chance of attempting to close these. Might as well have barbed thruhulls with no valve for that matter.

The question: Any considerations when relocating thruhulls for raw water intake to engines?

    I can explore relocating to:
1.Towards the center bilge (also at rear of engines but accessible closer to centerline and away from gears).
    2. Front of engines but about 12ā€³ outboard (this would be about 36ā€³ either side from boat centerline)
    3. Aft of fuel tank, just in front of rudders
    4. Aft of fuel tank closer to centerline in center/aft bilge, as in option 1 but aft and about 24ā€³ from transom.

    Any advise is greatly appreciated!
