The CEL on one of my 480ce’s came on immediately when I started it after changing the oil.

Seem to remember there is a way to get it to “flash” the fault code but can’t find instructions.

Can anyone point me to instructions on how to get it to flash the fault codes and how to convert that to a code that I can look up? Seem to remember it was a key sequence.

Any common cause for the light to come on after an oil change?

I apologize for not explaining better.

I do not have dedicated displays for the engines – they were burned out when i bought the boat and I removed them. I use two J1708 to NMEA2000 gateways to view engine data on my Garmin MFD (7607xsv). I generally use them for viewing temps, boost pressure, etc. It honestly did not occur to me that I would be able to view any fault codes on my MFD. I’ll have to hunt through the garmin menus to see if there is a way to view the data.

My initial question was that I thought I could view fault codes by inputing a certain key sequence (like turning the key on and off 3 times), which would cause the check engine light to flash a sequence corresponding to any codes. Maybe that’s not the case and i should just focus on trying to pull up the codes on the display?

Post some pictures of all the displays you have, there were SO many options back then…. then I’ll be better equipped to guide you to a solution…

Thanks, but I don’t have those displays. I thought there was a way to get the check engine light to flash a certain number of times to indicate any fault codes present.

Try looking through the SMX ED-X user manual, you should be able to determine how to look up fault info:
