    Hi guys

My alternator on the SB engine has died. It’s on a 1997 6bta and is a 15 si.

Sourcing a new 15si in Aus is proving problematic as there is only one brand and the bearings and alternator howl when running.. shop is refusing to supply now as they have had a couple like it. I was wondering if the 19si is useable without any mods. I’ve searched and can’t find frame drawings anywhere. The 19si is more readily available.

I’d order from sbmar but need it quick and after my recent order got screwed around over here ( no fault of sbmar) and got to me a week late and after 5 hours on the phone..

    Thanks in advance as usual…

    Steve

Yes you can switch to an 19SI–One caveat–You may will need a longer lower bracket, as in some cases you need move the alternator out about 1/2″ to clear the engine block. This is a DIY job.

Wiring may be slightly different to… What runs your tach now?
