August 29, 2022 at 1:26 pm Noticed engine started steaming after I replaced both thermostats. Iā€™ve had 3 problems with overheating since then. I just Rev it up and temp goes back to normal. Next I serviced both engines. Oil, filters, etc. On first trip out, port engine is steaming slightly. When we stopped a petroleum smell was noticed. Port engine had a water/ fuel mixture ( I used red antifreeze when I replaced thermostats) or a water/ antifreeze mixture dripping out of…

August 30, 2022 at 5:23 am Good Morning All! I have a 35′ 21,000 lbs express style vessel with twin Cummins 6CTA 450 Diamonds and ZF 302’s with 1.65 ratio. I changed the props to 4 blade units and vessel is running great, now it makes the same speed at lower RPM and I don’t think its over propped since engines can reach 2600rpms under way. June 5, 2019 at 3:54 pm I just had my 6BTA props repitched, and now I’m happy to say I’ve gone from 2800 WOT to 2950 WOT. So now what should I shoot for in terms of cruise RPM? I come up on a good plane around 2200 or so.

August 22, 2022 at 5:54 pm .8 gal gas went into a full 120 gal tank of diesel. Engine was not run. Tank has been isolated. This is a Cummins 6BT ,model year 2000 ,with the Lucas injector pump. We are on a trip with the vessel. Will run only on other tank until sorted out. Question, how bad is this? I figure it’s 150:1 diesel to gas ratio. Should I use a lubricity additive? Your thoughts or experience appreciated.

August 16, 2022 at 3:55 pm I have a 1999 Maxum 4100 SCR with twin 6BTA 330’s. Until the fuel prices skyrocketed I always cruised at 2400 not 2600 RPM’s. Now I am cruising at 1500 to 1600 RPM’s. Do I need to run it up to 2400 to 2600 every 8 hours to keep the engines from having issues?

August 19, 2022 at 8:43 am Thanks for the input Rob. My boat has a planning hull and last winter I added two more trim tabs at the keel line. I can now run bow down at any speed rather than having to stand to see over the bow. Much more efficient and I no longer have to get over the hump. That said, after reading Tonys article on low speed running and your and Steves input I plan to take it to hit cruise RPMs at the end of each hull speed run.
