After working with the Cummins / VDO instrument panels for over 20 years, we decided that it was time to look at all the features that we needed to improve on while maintaining 100% “Plug & Play” compatibility with both the older and latest analog panels, engines, and existing wiring. Our efforts are now a reality with the release of our SMX Marine Instrument Panels in May 2009.

• 100% “Plug & Play” with both Current and older Cummins mechanical B, C, and other engines where the Cummins / VDO panel was used. Both main station and second stations are available.
• Built-in alarms for oil pressure, coolant temp, low-voltage, and water detection or “WIF”. Built-in alarm expandability that includes wet exhaust raw water temp, transmission oil pressure or transmission oil temperature, and seawater flow. (See alarm light panel diagram below)
• All gauges meet the highest standards for reliability and accuracy; including, anti-fog tempered glass lenses, built-in light dimmer and “off knob”, super simple tachometer settings, digital engine hour meter, automotive style “off-on-start” switch, alarm cancel and test circuit, and the first 500 PSI transmission oil pressure gauge designed to operate with all of the newer high oil pressure transmissions. All of our SMX sending units are VDO / Cummins interchangeable but feature improved reliability and accuracy.
• Our SMX Instruments and accessories are so well-designed and thought-out that the adaptation to “other engines” is now a simple task. They’re extremely compact and use less dash-board space (9.5″ x 7″), can be ordered with a universal on-engine wiring harness, extension harnesses in 10, 20, 30 and 40 foot lengths (can be doubled-up to 100′ maximum), and have on-board capability to drive large bells, whistles, or horns for increased vital sign alarm safety. They can be easily adapted to the new electronic engines as well should you want “analog” capability that is so much easier to deal with.

• Fully “Seaboard Marinized” to operate in the marine climate where moisture is always a problem. Our circuit boards are built to the highest standards using 100% American-style components and design. All you have to do is just look at our wiring and you’ll see the quality. Our gauge faces and scales were designed specifically for the American thought process with no “funny numbers” that always seem to lead to confusion.
