Cummins Marine QSB High Fuel Pressure Fault & Alarm Troubleshooting

Fault Code: 449, 553, 2311 (SPN: 157)

Injector Metering Rail Number 1 Pressure – Data Valid But Above Normal Operating Range – Most Severe Level. The ECM has detected that fuel pressure in the rail fuel is higher than the commanded pressure.

Fault Code: 2216

Fuel pump delivery pressure – data valid but above normal operational range – moderately severe level. The ECM has detected fuel pressure in the fuel rail that is higher than the commanded pressure.

General troubleshooting steps:

#1 – Check for fuel return line restriction or closed valve.

#2 – Check for fuel supply restriction and ensure that all filters are clean.

#3 – Replace the rail pressure sensor. If you have twin engines, swap the sensors to see if it resolves the issue on the problematic engine.

#4 – Replace the common rail pump fuel actuator. If you have twin engines, swap the actuators to see if it resolves the issue on the problematic engine.

#5 – Replace the electric lift pump. If you have twin engines, swap the pumps to see if it resolves the issue on the problematic engine.
