June 9, 2021 at 7:00 am Can anyone tell what Cummins is recommending for a micron filter for a secondary racor filter. I have a 480ce on a 2005 searay 390. I believe there are three filters available. 2, 10 and 30 micron.

    • prop spec for 6bta 300HP

October 27, 2019 at 9:40 am I have 6bta 5.9 diesels 300HP engines in a 1991 380 AC Searay. I have four blade cupped props. My engines are 2800 rpm no load. I can’t seem to generate the rated top end speed I think I should get. I think I should be doing about 20 kts at 2250 rpm’s. I’m only doing around 17 at that rpm. does any have any suggestions on the spec’s for the props that seem to be optimum on the high end.

October 27, 2019 at 9:59 am You need to start here and go thru each step in the order they are presented.. Understanding Low Power Troubleshooting If you cannot perform these tasks, then you need to hire someone who can.. 95% of all low power complaints are due to over-propping if dark smoke is present, followed by simple things like the throttle is not making full throw, inaccurate tachs, aftercooler needs a full service, exhaust design has ruined the turbo, and then l…

September 17, 2018 at 9:41 am We run twin Cummins 6CTA8.3L engines. The banjo fitting at the bottom of the turbo is very seldom not leaking coolant. With the exception of changing the turbo does anyone know of another way to fix this issue?

September 17, 2018 at 10:45 am Further to bob’s post, reassemble with a good pipe dope, Rectorseal 5 or Tru-Blu. Here’s an article on the site: https://www.sbmar.com/articles/cummins-6cta-480ce-turbo-banjo-leak-fix/

September 4, 2018 at 10:01 am I had two rebuilt 6bta 5.9 300 HP engines put into my 380 aft cabin searay last season. I have not been able to reach 2800 rpm’s under load. The engines have been checked without load and are at 3100 rpms. All other components seem to be working okay but I’m at a loss as to why I’m not reaching 2800 under load. The bottom is clean and I was able to reach 2800 with the engines I replaced. I have four blade props which have not b…

September 4, 2018 at 4:44 pm If tachs are accurate, then you need to loose a full 3″ of pitch.. 2950 in the number you want to get the field performance” these engine can deliver.. Remember, your boat is not a test cell and the minimum rated 2800 RPM was derived inside a test cell on a dyno…………………My suggestion is to just do it and not question –You’ll thank me later… Tony
