I have a 2004 ZF63A driven by a Cummins 6BT 220HP that I typically run at 1600-2000 rpms. Total 4750 hours. will add about 150 more this year on our 40′ Transpac Eagle Trawler.

Everything is working fine and I try to follow all of Tony’s Tips for maintenance and get all my maintenance parts here!

Next year I am planning a summer-long trip to the Canadian Maritimes from Cape Cod. I expect to add 700-900 hours to the system. Looking at drive train preventative maintenance before going to this remote area

What is a typical rebuild interval for a ZF63a? Is it better to rebuild or buy new with these?

Is there a 5000 service interval for a Cummins 6BT? I am having trouble finding info. Injectors? Injector pump? Turbo?

    Thank you!

Thank you Tony, I will order the torsional coupling try that and change from ATF to 15w-40, one less fluid to keep on the boat!

IMO, if I was going to do anything other that simple maintenance, I’d pull the gear and replace the torsional coupling, change the filter and switch to 15w-40 oil………….You asked–This in my answer
