I have read the fuel shut off articles and I cant seem to find an answer so here goes my question.
There are three wires (red, white, and black) that come off of the fuel solenoid.
The black is ground and is connected per Tony’s article directly to the bolt on the solenoid. The red wire holds the plunger in and works fine. The white wire that comes off of the wiring harness is DEAD.

In order to start my engine I ran a new wire from the start button (momentary switch) to the white lead on the solenoid. Now the engine will start.

Question is on the wiring harness diagram found here (https://www.sbmar.com/articles/basic-fuel-shutoff-solenoid-starter-wiring-information/) a relay is shown.

    Is this relay required?
Is a fuse required and if so what size?
Does wiring the solenoid this way create a fire hazard?

Any help on this issue is appreciated.

    Thank you,
    DG

The suck-in” coil on the solenoid ( white wire) is attached to the starter magnetic switch and is controlled just like the Bendix is on the starter, While you are “cranking, your fuel solenoid is “sucked-in”..It shows that on the Cummins factory diagrams..

Study the attached closely.. It shows it.
