I have a a set of Cummins 6bta 330’s and is having issues getting full rpm on the starbord engine. When I throttle the engines up after leaving harbor the port engine will get up to full rpm while the starboard engine will sit at about 2000 rpm. After about a min or two, finally the starboard engine will begin to come up and will reach full rpm. All temps and pressures are within range. When the starboard engine is lagging at that 2000 rpm we notice a little more black smoke coning from the exhaust. The engine have about 7000 hours on them. The turbo and injection pump are original and have never been serviced.

What do you think would cause the stbd engine to struggle at the 2000rpm range and not instantly reach full rpm like the port??

Let’s see some pics of the engines, especially the turbos and exhaust.

Has the exhaust ever been pulled for inspection of the exhaust side of the turbos?

Has the aftercoolers ever been pulled, put on a bench and broken down for a “Seaboard Servicing” ?
