Seaboard gets a gold star for both the SMX Seawater pump and the SMX highflow 160 thermostat. Was a chore getting the old pump off and the new one in, but I got a chance to run the boat some this past weekend with the new pump and thermostat. She never got above 180 degrees. Before these installs, the boat was running at 195 degrees, which obviously didn’t give me much room for error. FYI – I don’t have much room around the coolant drain plug, so I installed a brass ball valve and used long water bottles to fill up with coolant. The ball valve allowed me to turn on and off the drain. I left the ball valve in place and used the old plug to screw into the bottom of the ball valve, just in case it got turned somehow. Worked like a charm. The other project completed was removal of the fuel cooler. The only thing I wish was different on these engines was the banjo fitting for the fuel supply. I wish there was a better fitting that did not need to be bent to fit. The fuel cooler replacement parts on the intake side really are tight up against this fitting. I’d love to someone develop a better work around for that. I’ve had one of these fittings fail due to the bend and fatigue. It made a huge mess (not to mention the fire hazard involved) and so it is one of those things that is always in the back of my mind when running. When it failed there was no indication it had failed, except for the diesel pouring out all over the deck from beneath my engine box. I’d like to have more confidence in that fitting.
