    Hello guys.

Have done service on one of the shafts on Pershing 37,it has 45mm shaft, and stuffing box from company Eliche Radici.

Please see photos,it has shaft that pass through gearbox(ZF),and it was bugger to remove it.

Inside of stuffing box i did replace packing material,we did today seatrial, water do drips when running, but it runs warmer then other one, which i didn’t do this time, because of lack of time(engine needs to be lift up)

Everything was done carefully, but that temp difference worries me,difference is around 10 deegres C,water is dripping one drop each 10 seconds,i did adjust it like that for beginning.

Thank you Tony, you know your bussines. That looks great, for sure, then i need to measure first when shaft removed which size that tooling needs to be,so that seats perfect inisde.

That bushing seats inside in gearbox flange correct?

    Alignment of “Hollow-Shaft” v-drives

Attached is how we have been doing the initial alignment of “Hollow Shaft V-drives” for over 20 years..

Done right, it gets you to within “feeler gauge alignment” without using one. We machine the “bushings” from common PVC. For our work, it makes life easy, accurate & fast.

Post a picture of your coupling … and the access to it.

    Hello Tony. Thanks for reply.

Yes,i am also thinking that is just bedding in,but i don’t have lot of experience with stuffing box, usually i am switching those things to PSS or Tides Marine style shaft seals.

And with this one,i did have also problem getting packing material, originaly inside was like white packing material, not sure which material, now i have put graphite cotton stuff,it was greasy from start, was only material that was fitting to that stuffing box, maybe has something to do it as well.

This is italian brand, original packing material i can get from september,it is annoying.

Also one question more, how to check shaft alignment with such system, pass through gearbox, and tight space in the front where is coupling?

If that is a hot as it gets, NOTHING to worry about or do….It’s just wearing in…….70C and then you need to think about dealing with it………….I use my hand to test–way easier once your learn do feel temps that are comfortable vs. not… Your temp is like hot bath water..
