Hello all and thanks in advance.

I’m about to replace my impellor in the raw water pump – do I use a sealant of some sort on the cardboard gasket?
My manual doesn’t mention anything and my cummins parts guy said he thinks it goes on dry but didn’t look too sure….
    My engine is a 6bt 5.9m 210hp.

    Thanks heaps, Dan

Thanks Gents – great clear advice as usual, I’ll get right on it.

My M.O. = thin smear of Alco Metalube on the gasket and copious amounts of KY jelly on the impeller.

Common Grease or Rector-seal #5 is the ticket.. Same on the 12MM bolts.

Also, always lube the impeller liberally too so in installs easy and primes quick– I prefer common grease, but others use other types of lube.. I don’t buy the “Petroleum thing” hurts the impeller.

I prescribe to this———————-“Everything that goes together in the Marine Enviroment needs something on it, or in-between to assemble it right”..

    Tony
