A year after spine surgery I’m again able to crawl around in the engine space. This is what I found, a dry bit of salt on the pan lip. No moisture except for a bit of lube oil. This is not normal as I’m pretty diligent checking things out, leaks etc. Normally I’d wash it down and touch up the paint so this happened recently I suspect. Plan is to clean it up and keep an eye on it for a while.

Any thoughts where the salt may have come from?

    Thanks John

Any seawater carrying hose over head that can drip? Any seawater pressurized hoses nearby that could spray when the engine is running?
    Any overhead deck leaks?

Have you checked ALL clamps especially on the pressurized hose connections but all hoses. All hoses take a set over time and unless the clamps are checked for snugness those hoses may start to weep.leak at the connections.

Or it may take getting down there while the engine is operating to examine for the source.
