I’m considering buying a boat with twin QSB 5.7l 480hp (2008) v-drive with about 1200 hrs. It looks like the 1000 hr service (or maybe I should say a service) was done in April of 2019. Do the pics and service invoice tell any story? Does the paint job on the motors, which seem to have a bit of overspray, a little sloppy indicate anything?

I’m not very far along in the investigation to be able to give the more pertinent info. However I need to verify my thoughts against yours as I go through the education process. Buying a boat is tougher these days. So many are neglected and the prices are high. But I’ll find my boat and it will have Cummins and I’ll be better educated and supported and that is THANKS to you guys Tony, Rob and Steve. You’re much appreciated.

Can you stand on the back deck, take pics  and let me see “everything”?  Can you lift the hatches and let me “see” everything”…..No close ups.. Way too much is missing including everything as to you running the boat and recording all the info as to engine loading..

Needing rebuilt turbos or ?? is scary at such low hours.. Something  BIG  is missing here…

The usual – Lack of History and Lack of Specifics.

The heat-ex and aftercooler service: “maintenance included” – there’s many ways to interpret that.

It’s coolant, not antifreeze!  Re-used or replaced? It’s not listed under Parts and 12-gallons of coolant is surely not free.

Turbos R&R’d – “Why” is the info you need

New Exhaust?  Are the risers new?  Maybe there were no dry risers fitted before and that’s why the turbo work was needed.  This you need to find out.

Rattle can paint job is about par for the course.  I don’t see the need to paint a turbo’s Al air scroll but the cast iron should have been painted.

The other turbo burnt paint should tell you something about the engine loading and/or the nut behind the wheel.  Plenty of reading on this forum/website on those issues…

Reposting your invoice screenshot properly oriented
