I have two 5.9 Cummins QSB’s 2004 w Smart Craft instruments. Can I use an OBDII scanner if I get a 9 pin to 16 pin adapter to scan codes for these engines?

The 9-pin diagnostic connector only has 4 pins, 2 for power and 2 for J1939 data. Your reader must be able to interpret J1939 DM1-based fault codes.
