I have twin QSB 5.9s. I removed the valve covers and inspected the rocker assemblies. The starboard engine was clean. The port engine rockers had a film of soot/carbon (easy to see on the red and yellow injector wiring).

Any ideas why this would be the case? I am replacing all the Airsep filters as a precaution.

Change oil makes & be sure it meets Cummins specs, use genuine Cummins oil filters, and be sure you don’t extend oil change intervals.
