I’m hoping I can get some help. I have a commercial crab puller on my boat and I’m being told the hydraulic pump is too large to run my simplex salmon gurdies. I don’t plan to crab on the boat, but I’d like to run the gurdies

Looking for help on either reducing the flow on my current pump or getting a smaller one. Any input would be appreciated. I have a Cummins 6bta

Looking closer, it looks more like a V30 pump…Yes, BIG but that does matter. You just need to install a 1″ flow control hooked up to the output of you pump You may also need a 3-way diverter too.. In the Salmon mode you are just bypassing 80% of the pump output back to the tank.. Super simple–1″ high pressure hose fitting from the pump to the flow control You’ll spend about $400 on the large flow control ( 3+ X the price of a 1/2″ or 3/4″, then some hosed, fittings etc, but way cheaper than any alternative and you can keep all you other stuff in place. We can help if you cannot sort is out locally. We have a 24-7 hyd engineer and shop in-hours. Remember , this is only going to be as reliable as you current pump your clutch and the rest of you rusty equipment..The clutch looks scary

    Hi Tony,

I thought I posted a few other pictures. I have a crab block, large hydraulic reservoir tank. Here are some pictures. If I need others let me know

Address my post or I cannot help..

    It’s very clear

Let me see what other types of valving / equipment you have in the system not related to the salmon gear..

Yes, I am “Black & White” on posts like this when someone wants help but has not a clue as to what they are doing. It’s step by step to sort it out, especially when talking a hydraulic system with components made / designed 30-40 years ago..

    Hydraulic Gear

Good start……….Let me see what other types of valving / equipment you have in the system not related to the salmon gear..

Looks like a electric clutch driven Vickers V-20 pump.. If you are in this for making your “paycheck”, go thru the electric clutch top to bottom.. It has seen way better days. Plus, start reading about simple “mobile hydraulics”.. Lots of stuff out there. You have what they call a “open-center” system that most like operates at in the 1000-1500 PSI range.

What do you know about the pump as to the make, model, displacement and how it’s driven.. What about valving “after “the pump? We set that stuff all the time as the salmon gurdies all the way 16-18” pullers and everything is between..
