Cummins’ manual for the QSC 8.3 says that when replacing the spin-on FF 5488 fuel filter, the “…fuel supply and return valves MUST be closed…”
Not at the boat, so I can’t look right now, but are these two valves easily located? Am I looking for them on or near the engine, or on or near the fuel tank?

Fuel valves are manufacturer installed not Cummins so they will all be different locations. On my boat I do have a valve on the tank for both return and supply but honestly never have shut them off when changing the filters. Unless your tank is mounted above the engine then there is not much risk….
