After my upcoming raw water side servicing, I’d like to set up a FW flush for the motors. I have an existing setup for the Gen and AC. I’d like to use the sbmar tee that I see advertised for this setup. My question is, can regular hardware store brass items be used on the transom/freshwater side leading up to the sbmar tee? Or should all the plumbing be bronze (read…..expensive, lol) fittings?

    Thanks!

Flushing Water has to enter the OUTSIDE of the pump for a “engine not running” system..

Thanks Tony, any thoughts on using the seawater pump ā€œinā€ or ā€œoutā€ fitting for the flushing?

Engine off flushing should be fine with what I can see.. It’s all about gravity..

Thoughts on the above photos, and engine off flushing?

No, it turns 90Ā° towards the stern and exits about 6ft later. Both the port and stbd exits are about 6ft behind me where I took the pics. There is no lift muffler. Just a separator (part name?) that diverts air/underwater exhaust.

On the port exhaust photo, is that where the exhaust exits the hull, or is that going into another compartment?

Is there a muffler in the system?

    Thanks Phil,

I hadnā€™t really planned on doing the flush w the engines stopped after all the nagative things Iā€™ve read about doing it that way. For the fun of it though, and maybe some consideration……here is my setup. Everything seems to flow downhill……Iā€™ve notated the pics with the angles. Maybe I can do this engines off? Iā€™d rather not risk it if thereā€™s any concern of water going to the turbo.

(the port exhaust photo looks like a V in it…but its the photo angle….it all runs downhill)

The ā€œinā€ side would require flushing with the engine running to get water to pass through the pump. Pros is the pump gets a flush, cons is there is seawater pressure against that port so if you have a leak it can be serious.

Using the ā€œoutā€ port may allow you to flush without running the engine depending on your exhaust setup. Post some photos of your entire engine and exhaust from side angle and the top and we might be able to comment more.

No one solution is better than the other, they both have pros and cons. And each engine installation is different.

Would there be a reason not to tap into the “in” port on the seawater pump for the freshwater connection?

The typical brass or red brass fittings sold at “Home Depot” , etc will be just fine.. Between you and me that about all you can find anyway.. The thing about “brass & bronze” is so blended now, that you don’t have any choices for most common pipe fittings anymore.
