    Hi All,

I want to pull my port exhaust elbow just to check for issues, but one of the bolt heads has corroded and sheared off. The other bolt heads are also corroded to a point that a regular wrench is ineffective. (Seawater leak, since repaired.) There is no evidence of any exhaust leaks.

What are my risks running the boat as is? Access is horrible, and it looks like the next option is grinder/cutoff wheel, and space for this is very tight and dangerous.

Other options? Other tools/tips for removal?

Again, I have no evidence of problems, just trying to stay ahead of things. FYI, I replaced these about 5 years ago with a “dry” version to avoid seawater ingestion issues. I have pulled them before to be sure all is good, and it has been.

Also to note, I got the port elbow off with no issues and all looks good.

    Thanks for your comments.

    Larry

Good pics inside the exhaust turbo outlet will tell the story.

I did not take pics of the strb side when apart, but no rust, spots, bubbles, corrosion, etc. just the usual black carbon, both inside the elbow and turbo. Blade spin was was good, and tip clearences good. And engines run great. No issues there. The problem is the bolts which got hit with saltwater from a hose leak on the HE. I will take pics this weekend, and when/if I get it apart, I’ll shoot some pics and send.

Also to note, the replacement before was preventative. I had wet elbows and decided to change them out of dry to prevent future problems.

    Thanks

Post pictures of what “all looks good”…I suspect otherwise as did Rob , especially since it’s been replaced before and the time period is so short again.

Only 5 years in service and the corrosion is that bad that the hardware is no longer serviceable?

Post some good pics of all – the corroded hardware, the access and the risers/exhaust setup?
