I have twin 1991 Cummins 250hp 6BTA5.9 M1 motors on a trawler style boat, about 2015 hours each. I just purchased the boat this past fall, and am going over the engines and updating as needed. The air filters look like Cummins OEM and definitely need replacing. Although the engine room is well ventilated and isn’t that dirty, and there is a relatively minimum amount of soot/oil on the back side of the alternators, I figure if I’m going to put money into new air filters I should at least consider some sort of CCV system, whether Racor or EnviroVent. I’ve pretty much decided against the Walker Airseps, as based on what I’ve read on online forums they don’t do so well with the 6BTAs.

Anyway, I have Synchronizers installed at the fittings on the front engine covers, and don’t really know how to install the EnviroVent with the alternate valve cover installation – and can’t seem to find or get any installation instructions or pictures of sample installations.

Has anyone installed the EnviroVents on 6BTA s not using the front cover? Or the Racor CCVs? Thanks.

Air Cleaner Filter ready for CCV

Ok. Understand the crankcase riser function. Thanks for the explanation.

As I just bought the boat this past December and don’t really yet know how much blow-by or oil mist or fumes come from the engines into the engine room and maybe beyond – but do know I need air cleaner/filters – I spoke with Brad and ordered two S&B air filters set up for a CCV system with the fitting installed at the end.

In that way I get new filters and at the same time will be ready for a CCV system if / when I determine the need.

Thanks Tony, Rob, and Brad for your help. Much appreciated.

We originally developed the extension kit for higher “blow-by” engines, but if you have the room above the engine, it is a superior way to go for a “B” series engine..

Think of it as an “CRANKCASE exhaust riser–Use the height you have and let “gravity” to most of the work………………………If you go back the the Envirovent’s beginning, the impetus for it’s design was based on the “need” for something that fit this engines characteristics——A Shallow oil pan that tended to or did whip oil, a venting system that basically did not work in marine environment, and one that would overcome the inherent design flaws of the Walker System that was developed for a Detroit Diesel, & absolutely created more issues than it solved on the 6BT/6BTA 5.9.

If you go this route, you’ll never look back..

Fitting Seals and extension vs no extension

    Thanks for the sample pictures.

Are both the valve cover angle fitting and/or the valve cover extension threaded to seal to the threads in the valve cover hole?

What determines whether or not an extension is used in the installation?

Here’s some sample pics. Not a JWAC in these photos put should fit basically the same…
