Aftercooler in Cummins 6cta 450 HP Diamonds maintenance year 2001
I removed my aftercoolers for maintenance, I found out the have a small drill hole about 1 mm or 2 mm just at the side bottom of the cooler, when installed I felt the air turbo coming out.
They are in the same place in both aftercoolers at the same location, see picture.
Is this something original from the factory or it was done by the previous owners mechanic?
    Have someone notice it?
Can this be water condensation holes, water drip ?

    Condensation drain

Post good pics.. Use a drill bit and determine the actual size of the hole..

Both Detroit/MTU on the Series 60’s, and Volvo have used this “Technique” to drain condensation over the years..

    After coolers

I just replaced my complete aftercoolers on my 2005 cummins 370 qsb 5.7. The new housings come with a spring loaded condensate drain in the bottom. From the looks of the housings I would recommed replacing the complete assembly’s. FYI seaboard marine sells assembly’s that already have needed grease at top & bottom covers. Good luck

i replaced the cores with 2 new ones. The radiator shop told me they never saw holes in the aftercoolers, this was done by the previous owner.
Aftercoolers are done now, should i keep the little holes ( condensation holes) or should i close them with Epoxi ?

are this little holes just for condensation water, ?

    What should i do?

I am assuming these our pics of the old cores–correct?

Yes, they were done…………………New cores and serviced aftercoolers————–Take them apart 12 months after they touch saltwater and let me see them as removed, UN-CLEANED !. ..

yes I removed the after coolers, took it to a radiator shop to remove the cores, i bought the after coolers and heat exchanges with metal lube grease kit from you. They pressure tested the cores, and they were leaking air, so i bought 2 new cores from Cummins, you are out of stock from your website. here is a picture of the cores, they are clean inside because 6 months ago we did a run clean-out with barnacle buster to the entire system.
here is a picture of the cores.

The “hole” was drilled by someone, NOT the factory..

As to what really matters———-Have you removed the core for a complete “on the bench inspection”..

Lets see some really good pics of all..

We’ll deal with the “hole” later..
