My 6CTA’s were refitted with SMX raw water pumps by the previous owner. The pressure port is feeding the PSS dripless packing seal. In my opinion the pressure and flow from the pump is way too much (maybe 5x) for this purpose. When the dripless system was replaced 2 years ago the amount of water escaping between the carbon disc and the stainless steel collar was frightening at 1700 rpm. So anyone have thoughts on this??

Two things here to deal with..

    1) As the aftercooler, gear cooler and HX clogs with “stuff” from lack of maintenance, the pressure increases inside the pump

    2) We ALWAYS put a 1/8″- 5/32″ ID restrictor about 1″ long inside the feed hose when tapping into that port on any pump..This has been SOP for us for close to 30 years………………Alternate way is to slide a 6″ -12″ piece of 3/16″ ID hose up the feed hose right at the seal connection
