    Good Morning folks!

i have a 6cta and i just installed a 28si alternator from a small profile balmar unit. I had to change brackets, pulleys, etc in order to fit. I noticed that the belt tensioner is shaking a lot, cant really remember if it did this before… I am leaning towards changing it but wanted to verify first in here..

Also, i noticed that the coolant pump (3913430) for this engine is bigger than the other, is this an issue? Since it has a bigger pulley, this means coolant flow is lower?

    Tensioner

My tensioner does not wobble as much which led me to believe maybe not enough tension from the belt and the fact that you went from the balmar tiara setup to the Cummins setup which is two different belts.Ā

    Belt tensioner

I have a tiara also and it has externally regulated alternators so exchanging with a new externally regulated balmar was the way to go for me.If you get a new tensioner I recommend oem as this is what happened with aftermarket one I thought I got a good deal on. I now carry a spare tensioner.

I was able to re-use my belts and I actually did compared them with some true cummins belts (3288812) that I have as spare and they were the same length. In my opinion, Tiara did some weird stuff with alternators back in the 90s, my guess is because it used gel style batteries that required external regulators?? i dont know.. I think it was the only vendor using a small sized alternator on a 6CTA…

    Belt tensioner

Not sure if this is your issue but I have a 480 ce with a balmar. When I went to replace the belt I found I had a different belt size with the balmar than whatā€™s advertised on the seaboard site.Had to send that back .When one of my alternators failed I purchased another balmar as that made the change easier because I didnā€™t have to change anything. It was a very expensive alternator but works great at idle whereas my other old alternator doesnā€™t excite until I bring the rpmā€™s up.
