Removing the ZF Magnet / Screen from a ZF 220A

Article by: Rob Schepis – October 20, 2016

The Hex nut that is part of the magnetic screen is a shallow hex and is usually TIGHT.  To get a more positive grip modify the socket on a bench grinder to remove the chamfer this way the socket walls make complete contact with the sides of the hex minimizing any damage or ā€œroundingā€ of the hex.  My 220A reguired a 36mm socket.  A breaker bar is handy IF your engine ā€œroomā€ allows it.  Be mindful to keep the socket seated firmly and square when applying pressure.
