Rick good luck in your repower and in making the tough decisions. I just want to emphasize Tony’s comments regarding sub system upgrades/improvements.
Having done a single engine repower myself in the past and having done most of it myself I found an awful lot to do as soon as the old engine was out.
Old thru hulls? Now I have good access so time to install new ones.
Old water system plumbing? Gone and a new system installed with proper angles so it drains for winterizing.
Didn’t like the battery placement so I glassed in new shelves and relocated (battery cable is expensive LOL).
Time for modern raw water strainer and let’s relocate so it’s easy to service.
Now that I have block heaters let’s install a nice electrical outlet with it’s own breaker that’s convenient.
Oh yes, new exhaust hose and custom riser/elbow.

Those are only a few on the list but you get the idea.

I never keep an old used impeller for a spare. I keep a new one for a spare then after 2 seasons I use the “spare” as a replacement and buy a new one for a spare.
I figure that if I have to go thru the work of replacing an impeller especially if under duress, I want to put in a new part.
I’ve done this for 25 plus New England boating years and have never had an impeller failure.

ATF has anti foaming qualities which may be necessary. In a BW velvet drive if the engine rpm is less than 2600 it is OK to use motor oil in lieu of ATF. Don’t know what the requirement is in a ZF gear.
I can say from my bearing engineering experience that motor oil is a better lubricant than ATF.
