Let’s close the loop. Transmission more or less okay after cleaning out all old messy liquids. New gear cooler needed. Same time do some seal replacements and new belts on engine. All in about 1500 USD for parts and labour. Including testing heat exchanger and new gear and coolant fluids. Love this forum. Nailed the problem.! My Thai mechanic nailed it as well and did not screw me over….. ALL HAPPY!

Steve,
Thanks. Yes, I have read Tony’s tips in just about every aspect so I know the exhaust systems ones quite well. I was lucky enough that the person that built the boat has the wet exhaust oriented so that gravity can do it’s job and water does not sit in the elbow, atleast. They could have done much more given height clearance available. Even if it is the stock design elbow from Cummins
I live in Thailand and it just scares the heck out of me to even allow the “mechanics” around here design me a better exhaust. I worry when I see them just trying to change oil…. and needing my tools to do the job…..March 15, 2018 at 9:56 pm #29544

Tony, Thanks. Your opinion is good enough for me. 15w-40 it is….

I understand it is ATF gear but in my neck of the world I cannot find a single ATF blend on approved list and since it was suggested 15w-40 is okay and reduces noise, due to high ambient temp. Year round in Thailand I was wondering if Sae40 would be OK. Since I have 6 liters of it on hand.

Oops sorry. I meant is the SAE40 a no go even if I am in a warm year round ambient climate. Must be 15w-40 or ATF…

Wow!! Thanks guys!! SO is the SAE40W a no go?? I bought it already…. I don’t mind changing to 15W-40. Given the fact I am in Thailand and it is always over 70 degrees F here, please advise.
