December 29, 2018 at 6:04 pm Group: When changing zincs I pulled the end caps of the heat exchangers and one had a bit more deposits than I would care for. One was far worse than the other, but I’d like to remove them both and either service them myself or have them done. Either way, I want to do the R&R myself. Draining the raw water side is no problem. On the coolant side, it would seem that saving the coolant is the way to go. I can’t find a specifica…

December 31, 2020 at 3:35 pm I have a 2005 that also does not have the convenient drain plug. You can either pull the turbo hose or the hose that goes up to the expansion tank. I choose the expansion tank hose as it is a bit easier to deal with. Either way is likely to be a bit messier than using the drain plug.

    • Coolant Additives – Any Benefit or Stay Away

This topic has 4 replies, has 3 voices, and was last updated byRob Schepis 6 years ago

July 27, 2017 at 11:07 pm It seems that the B-Series Cummins is pretty impervious to cooling system issues within the closed side. I have used Redline Water Wetter in various land-based applications. Is there any benefit to using it within the closed portion of QSB cooling system? Any thoughts are appreciated.

July 29, 2017 at 5:32 am I think the only “additive” I have ever used was a gasoline stabilizer in my jerry can for my home equipment..

    • 37 Riviera Stop Switch wiring for QSB 5.9

February 9, 2017 at 4:04 pm One of the stop switches for our Riviera does not appear to be connected. The side that is connected works just fine.Ā Ā Ā  I am shutting down both engines currently by switching off the “ignition” switches.Ā Ā  There is some wiring that was not connected to anything (loose in the console) near the disconnected switch that looks as though it is part of that circuitry, but the conduit does not have a label.Ā Ā  The wiring for the working sid…

February 14, 2017 at 9:34 am Your logic is sound… if the wire was loose which left the circuit OPEN, then engine would never run. It would be nice to see a picture of the opposite side of the switch panel too so I can see what buttons/switches you have. With a voltmeter and some time, youĀ should be able to sort it out… especially since you have a side that is currently functional.

    • So, where does the spent zinc material go?

This topic has 6 replies, has 5 voices, and was last updated byDavid R Flamer 7 years ago

January 17, 2017 at 10:50 pm I recently replaced each of the zincs in QSB’s in both engines.Ā Ā  They really were not all that bad, but since they are not all that expensive I figure to just replace them when I pulled them.Ā  None of them were broken off, but had that “buttery” look that they get. My question is what happens to the material that sluffs off the zinc pencils?Ā Ā Does the material collect somewhere in the RW circuit?Ā  Does it just dissolve, small …

November 27, 2016 at 4:09 pm Group: I have a friend that has C7 Cats in his pleasure vessel.Ā Ā  He is having a few issues, which is of course unpleasant.Ā  However, the most unpleasant component is that he is, I believe, receiving poor service from the mechanics he has chosen.Ā  He is new to all of this and really does not know any better. I do try to help him, but I am no expert.Ā  My experience is limited toĀ my time with my QSB Cummins and what I have learned from this (and p…

November 28, 2016 at 2:17 pm Tony ThankĀ  you.Ā  I did not know Erith worked on Cats.Ā  Erith did the sea trial on Tax Break after his dad did a fluid change and cooler service.Ā That was going on at the time when the shop was getting moved. He got married didn’t he? Thanks again Tony.

If someone has a referral to do the mechanical survey (also a Northern Lights generator) I am all ears and would greatly appreciate it.
