October 7, 2022 at 4:58 am Thanks to the SBMAR forum, I was able to save a bunch of time and money. Ā  My QSC 8.3 started throwing codes Ā (2256 Prime Pump High Error and 559 Low Fuel Pressure). Ā We had to limp in at 1100 rpm’s. Ā While heading in, some searching was done online to find out what the codes were for. Ā There was a thread here that helped us to identify that we most likely had a bad fuel primer pump. Ā It must be a common thing to go bad because the local t…

December 4, 2021 at 3:53 pm I do not think so…………Our biggest concern now is availabity of the “stuff” we provide, and trying to contol $$ increases .. If I said it’s close to out of control, I would not be exaggerating..We just waited a solid 5 weeks for a ship sitting off Long Beach to unload. Tony

October 14, 2021 at 4:05 pm I just wanted to give a huge thanks to Justin at SBMAR. Last week, I noticed that I started to loose power on my QSC 8.3 with about 1630hrs. I was happening randomly and the seem to resolve. Yesterday it did it again. It almost felt like the engine was surging. Some things that I noticed was the engine was burning 4-6gals an hour more than normal. Engine load was showing 97% load at 86% throttle about 2350rpm. The engine finally threw a cod…

    • Engine storage questions

July 4, 2020 at 6:14 am I didn’t find anything in a search. My motor is a QSC 8.3. In normal years, my boat comes out of the water in October or November. Boat is stored in a garage that will rarely get to 20*. Motor is flushed with fresh water and then antifreeze is run through with protection to about -25*. The boat is usually launched in May or June. This summer, with just about every fishery being messed up and unable to sell my catch, I will probably not…

July 4, 2020 at 10:52 am Iā€™d make sure and replace the raw water impeller before you launch. After sitting all that time itā€™s sure to have taken a set. Also oil and all filter change, fresh charge on the battery and go boating. Bummer you canā€™t get out and fish this year…. Phil

    • Coalescing filter question

February 17, 2019 at 10:34 am Did some searching on here and only found 1 thread that had limited info. I have a QSC 8.3 500hp. I took out the Coalescing filter for the first time. It has about 1100hrs on it. Are they serviceable? They are pretty expensive to replace. There is no indication on the gauge that it is pulling a vacuum. Should I wait until I notice that a vacuum is being drawn to replace? I have been cleaning the main filter once a year with the K&N f…

    • Another QSC Exchanger/Cooler thread

February 16, 2019 at 2:28 pm The motor is a 2007 QSC 8.3 500hp. About 1100hrs used in saltwater. No fresh water flush after use. So I finally got around to taking my cooler and exchanger apart. Pics below. I have a few questions. For the heat exchanger, the tubes seem pretty slimy on the anti freeze side. Is this normal? Will the acid bath take care of the crud in the second pic? I rodded the tubes and most of it was clean. the third pic shows what came out. In th…

    • Dip Stick Extension

November 22, 2016 at 3:54 pm Is it possible to get an oil dip stick extension like the one in the picture for a QSC? Ā It is starting to get old climbing down into the bilge every time.

November 13, 2016 at 4:58 am There is discussion on another forum I am on about oil changes for fall decommissioning. Ā I would like for Tony to weigh in if possible. Ā Thanks for this Forum BTW. I have a QSC 8.3 500hp. Ā I average about 110-125hrs per season. Ā ( Was advised to to the following from the mechanic that rebuilt a KAMD42 for me) I change my oil after the boat is launched for the season, change at 100hrs during the season, and change again no matter what the meter …

November 13, 2016 at 6:32 am Kyle,   I’m on your side…Old school ideas take a long time to go away…..Engine hours, fuel use during those hours versus Ā Oil Pan capacity are the things that should be used to determine oil change intervals.. Changing oil before a winter lay up would only make sense if you were all ready do for one.   Tony
