6BTA 5.9 250hp fuel lift pump

October 28, 2018 at 4:46 pm I have attempted (unsuccessfully) to replace the piston style lift pump with the diaphragm type. The low pressure fuel line was damaged while attempting to reposition it to the new lift pump. It appears the line would have to be modified in order to attach it to the different (diaphragm) pump. 2 questions: 1. Can the diaphragm lift pump be used on this engine? 2. If so, is there a different fuel line made to attach to the diaphragm pump.
1 ReplyOctober 29, 2018 at 4:58 am Bradley, I cannot answer that question, & I really doubt anyone else can either unless that someone tried it & was successful in the end…. For sure, threads, sizes, & connections have no particular pattern as to what is used with what, other than I doubt you can “Mix & Match”… Next————-What exact CPL? If this is a EP9 injection system, then you are very off base trying to do this…

July 2, 2018 at 6:01 am 6BTA 250s, engine starts but will not continue to run because the solenoid will not remain in the “hold” position. Starboard engine only. This started after thoroughly cleaning engines; ignition alarms for both engines stopped working right after that (but gauges on dash came on) and engines ran. Then the solenoid issue arose the next time I tried to run them several days later. I assumed moisture intruded to harness connections …

Temp issue
This topic has 5 replies, has 5 voices, and was last updated by 6 years ago
May 13, 2017 at 2:59 pm I have 6bta5.9 250hp. Stbd expansion tank at cruise maintains same temp as block (190-195 degrees) which is about 10 degrees higher than the port engine. Ā New raw water pump, and thermostat, Ā less than 50 hrs. Ā Heat exchangers boiled out also. Ā Any idea as to what is the problem?Ā
5 RepliesJune 1, 2017 at 9:46 am Don’t forget that leftover impeller bits like to hide on the INTAKE side of the pump, and can create mysteriously intermittent blockage to the pump intake while running, but disappear when the motor is off. You might try taking the intake hose off at the strainer end and backflushing it.
