I made a little progress tonight. First realized there is no way that fresh water line is coming out without removing the air intake so that’s out. Second I got the end caps off the upper and lower housings of the Aftercooler. I looked in with a flashlight and was pleasantly surprised with what I can see so far. I also looked into the H/E and while it’s gummed up with barnacles, it probably also looks a little better than expected.

The 2 bolts under the air intake a major PIA. I was able to get both loose and about 80% out tonight. My thoughts are some type of offset 1/2″ open end wrench will do the trick. Going to run around tomorrow to home depot, etc and see what I can find.

I assumed it was a standard thing with this engine but I am beginning to understand these exhaust systems vary from boat to boat. Thank You.

They still tighten down really well. I can’t even pull them off when they are cranked down tight.

I changed the CCV filters in August 2020 at 900 hours. Engines now have 1,100 hours. The filter on the left of the photo is the one from the engine that the oil fill cap came off of. Previously, I could find no record of the CCV filters having ever been changed. Doesn’t mean they weren’t, but it’s not in the engine maintenance record that was left to me by the previous owner.

I will do all as you stated. Up here in the Northeast, it’s winterizing time, so this week I have done the oil changes and winterization. I do have the rubber expansion caps. Is there another option?

Had changed the filter in the Racor, but got some advice to take it apart. Found this lovely little algae snake in where the ball check valve is. All good now,

I followed the service manual testing procedure for the fuel feed pump and that seems like the culprit. New one arrived yesterday and plan to swap them out early this week.

turned out to be a bad ground. Mechanic got on board. Listened for 2 seconds, tightened the ground bolt on the chassis and the engine fired right up. Tightening of bolt = $5, knowing to tighten that bolt = $150…..

I did have the correct impeller. Just had no leverage at all with the oil fill and dipstick right in front of the pump. Got a tip from a mechanic to get a 2×4 for some leverage and then have someone briefly “bump” the start button without allowing the engine to start. Worked amazing. 2 “bumps” and the impeller was seated. It took 5 minutes. Great lesson for me. Always more than one way to skin a cat. Thanks for the help all.

OK excellent idea. I’ll probably wait until I haul to do that, but it will certainly make things easier. Thanks!

Thanks for the reply but I’m not sure how that would work? When I open the top of my strainers, if I don’t close the seacock I’ll get a hell of a rush of seawater coming in from the thru-hull. That’s where I am putting the fresh water hose, in the top of the basket strainer housing. Am I missing something?

2007 QSM11’s at 670HP. The raw water configuration in my boat makes it somewhat simple to do a Fresh Water wash via the sea strainers. Is it as simple as turning off the raw water intake ballcock, putting a fresh water hose in the sea strainer and running the engine for 2 minutes? Then closing everything up and opening the ballcocks?

I am choking a bit on the $1,200 to replace something that works but doesn’t light up. I rarely run at night anyway. I might replace this gauge but it won’t be this season. I have 2 in College and 2 in private high school….

    Thanks again – great website!
