    • O-rings on the after cooler and heat exchanger pipes

This topic has 7 replies, has 3 voices, and was last updated byAl Vogt 1 day ago

November 18, 2016 at 4:47 pm Ordered the after cooler heat exchanger kits. I just bought the boat so I ordered the O-rings that go on all the pipes. They got delivered today and some of them seem very close in size. Do I just try to size them up to the old ones or is there a picture I can look at and match up part numbers. Thanks for the help George

April 18, 2024 at 1:53 pm All I can tell you about proper O-rings for the Aftercooler is they should fit the groove in the cap. PERFECTLY!! I got a kit and it was the wrong one. The difference is so slight/little. Double or triple check to make sure youā€™ve got the right ones. If theyā€™re not correct, youā€™ll be buying the Cummins overhaul kit after sucking sea water into your cylinders. ( 1st hand knowledge ) Tony tip was dead on. If you have the slightest doubt, take pics…

    • QSM11 Question

April 20, 2021 at 6:08 pm Hello all, I thinking of looking at a boat with a pair of QSM11ā€™s. I have read Tonyā€™s article about the propping of these motors. I wonā€™t be able to check that till later in the process. So the question is the motors donā€™t quite have 2000 hours on them yet. They are year 2000 motors. If they have been over propped this whole time other then exhaust gaskets and manifolds is there any other damage done? Anything I should look at if I go to look at…

August 3, 2020 at 6:11 am Good Morning All, I should be coming up on 2000 hours at the end of this season. Is there anything particular that should be serviced at that hour point? Thinking more of internal thinks valve adjustment fuel injectors? Everything is running good at the moment. Motors are QSC 2006 Thanks George

August 7, 2020 at 8:52 am Thanks for letting me know. I will cut them open at the end of this season and post some pictures. My 3208 Cats did not return nearly that much fuel. This is why I’m glad I found this place always learning. So if I am changing them out 1200 to 1500 gallons of fuel burned it’s more like I have ran 4-5 thousand gallons through the filters? Thanks George

June 25, 2020 at 1:39 pm Hello All, I keep getting on alarm that there is water in the fuel. I still have Racor fuel filters. These are the sensors that I found in them when I took them apart to service them. There was no water in them. I see from another post there is a jumper that can be made to eliminate this water in fuel sensor. If you can get me a part number I would love to order a pair. Thanks George

October 20, 2018 at 1:55 pm Not sure if itā€™s something I should be worried about. Iā€™m putting together a parts list so if I need something I would like to add it to the list. Thanks George

October 21, 2018 at 11:01 am I pulled mine and ended up replacing the turbo to exhaust flange gasket with new graphic gaskets. When you get the covers off most of the paint will be cooked off as itā€™s the hottest part of the turbo. You will also see a small round cover with three bolts. Those can leak also but I have never taken them apart. The exhaust flange bolts can be stubborn. I suggest soaking them in penetrating lubricant daily for a few days to help. And a high qual…

April 16, 2018 at 11:04 am Hi Guy’s I am looking at changing my 8D batteries. They are in a bad spot and to heavy for me to be dragging around. I was thinking about 4D’s or wiring two group 31’s together? The motors are QSC 8.3. Does anyone have any suggestions on what is the better way to go. The generator and battery charger are on the whole time the boat is away from the dock. Thanks George

May 20, 2017 at 4:41 pm I think I need a new one. Mine is only putting out 12.5 volts at all rpm ranges. I only see two listed. The motor is a 2006 QSC 540hp. So I am thinking that I should be ordering a 22SI is that correct ? Not sure what the current amps are for the old one looks like a 3 wire from the picture. I think the 130 amp should do just fine. Thanks for the help. George

November 28, 2016 at 7:19 pm First off big thanks Tony. Now for the questions. As for removing the coolers off the boat is there any benefit if I can get both the cores out with them still attached to the motor? As for both I mean after cooler and heat exchanger. The blue coolant is the best coolant for the motor or is there something better? Both motors run at 170 degrees at cruising RPM 2200. This seems cool to me but I am used to truck engines. Motors are 2006 QSC 540hp.…
