Yep, all good comments. California has decided that Charter vessels (and others) are producing too much emissions so it’s upgrade or get out of the business. This is not new and has been going on for quite a while but the deadlines are approaching and I’ll have to put up or sell the boat. There have been grant funds available but like all grants there are strings attached. I have until the end of next year so I’m starting to make plans.
August 8, 2020 at 2:32 pm #102031Thanks for the reply. Tony, you replaced the torsional coupling when you swapped out the gear to the engine I purchased from you. I pulled the strainer and plug when I changed fluid in May. The magnet only had a tiny bit of gray fuzz and the screen was clean. It sounds like this thing should last a while longer.

August 18, 2017 at 5:19 pm #22003Thanks for the replies. How far back do you have to slide the tranny to remove it?
August 16, 2017 at 8:12 am #21942Here’s a little more info. The trans is a ZF IRM 220A-1 with 1.533/1 ratio, serial # 12887J . It has never been removed as far as I know. The gear whine has been there since I purchased it with 1,000 hours. Regular oil service. There has never been any material on the drain plug magnet or on the filter screen and the oil has always been clean ( light honey color). The gear now has 3500 hours. It gets fairly heavy use as a daily sportfishing charter. I put about 1,000 hours per year on the boat in a seven month season. Per the advice given on this site I had the prop re pitched to get 3100 RPM. When I purchased the boat originally it would only achieve 2850 RPM. I do not know anything about the torsional coupling.
