6CTA discoloration on turbo, pipe, and cooler. Cause?

September 19, 2017 at 9:00 am Browsing through YachtWorld, looking for a potential new home, and ran across a boat with Cummins 6CTA 450 hp engines. Love the engines. First time I have seen this brown discoloration on the turbo, tube coming from the turbo, and the aftercooler. The photos provided in the ad don’t show the port side of the port engine, only the starboard engine. The engines have 740 hours on them. Any of you diesel mechanics run into this before? What ar…

August 24, 2017 at 7:47 am Hello, New member here. Just found this incredibly useful site. Hoping you might be able to answer a couple of questions. We are considering moving to a larger boat. Two are under serious consideration. One is a 53′ with 6CTA 450 hp engines and the other is a 57′ with QSM11 635 hp engines. The close up photo of the seawater pump on the QSM looks like the dipstick tube and the oil filler tube could be in the way of using an impeller puller.
